Groovy Bakers: A Must-Visit Patisserie in Kobe

The pastry shop I want to recommend first and foremost as a great confectionery shop in Kobe is GROOVY BAKERS, a hidden gem located right near Motomachi. You can really feel the dedication put into every item, and they are all made with a refined, delicate flavor. They are truly delicious.

I especially recommend the Victoria Sponge Cake (with rum raisin & cashew nuts) and their NY Cheesecake (Vanilla flavor). You absolutely have to try them!

This time, I purchased the Victoria Sponge Cake (Rum Raisin & Cashew Nuts). It cost 550 yen, which I think is about a 10% price increase from last year, but for this quality of cake, I still consider it a bargain.

The appropriately sweet sponge cake is layered with butter cream that contains rum raisins and cashew nuts. The blend of rum and caramel flavor, combined with the cashew nut crunch, is absolutely exquisite. It is truly delicious!

Finally, here are the directions from Meriken Park.

Walk from the Port Tower down the main street, heading away from the Oriental Hotel and toward the mountainside. It’s easiest to follow the pedestrian walkway on the second level, which you can access by going up the stairs partway along the street

Continue along that path until you reach a hotel, then pass by its side and cross the pedestrian bridge. Go down the stairs where you see the Minato Motomachi sign, and walk straight until you hit the yellow café. The shop will be on your left hand side. Since it’s quite close, why not give it a try if you visit Meriken Park?

It opens from 12:00 PM. Please note, however, that it is takeout only and there is no dining space inside the shop.
