Est Royal’s Cream Puff: The Exquisite Cream You Must Try in Kobe

I went to Est Royal, a highly reputed Western confectionery shop in Kobe. It’s located in a slightly unexpected place: an alleyway right near Nankin-machi (Kobe’s Chinatown). The shop is painted pink, so even though it’s tucked away, it was easy to find.

For those visiting Nankin-machi for sightseeing, it would be great to try it as a dessert after eating Chinese food!

This is a long-established Western confectionery shop that has been in business since 1988, and its cream puffs are still highly praised for their delicious taste. At \290 each, they feel quite affordable these days, especially with convenience store sweets often being so expensive.

From its appearance, I expected the shell to be a crispy, cookie-like dough, but the texture of the shell wasn’t overly dominant. It was incredibly satisfying because it was filled with a massive amount of cream inside. The cream had a refined flavor that wasn’t overly sweet, and it was truly delicious.

This time I only had the cream puff, but since the cream is truly exceptional, I definitely want to try other sweets that use their cream next time. In addition to those, they also offer butter cream sandwiches and a variety of baked goods, all of which looked delicious. It seems they also have an online shop, so why not give it a try even if you live far away?
